In Maldives the main language spoken is Dhivehi, but at the capital city Male English is also widley spoken. 

A nice phrase that you can say to natives is Assalaam ‘alaikum which means peace upon you, and in response you can say Wa ‘alaikum assalaam which means and peace with you. As for gestures people usually meet with a hug, handshake, or nod of the head. It is also innapropriate for women to smoke in public and for men to spit in public. But you probably won t talk to much islanders as for resorts and hotels are on uninhabited islands.
